New Hand Baggage Rules for Flights Effective January 2025
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has introduced updated hand baggage rules for flights in India, effective January 1, 2025. These rules apply to both domestic and international flights but exempt passengers who booked tickets before May 4, 2024.
Key Changes in Hand Baggage Rules
One Hand Baggage Rule:
Passengers are permitted to carry only one piece of hand baggage.
Weight Limits:
Economy and Premium Economy Classes: Maximum weight allowed is 7 kg.
Business Class: Maximum weight allowed is 10 kg.
Dimension Restrictions:
Hand baggage dimensions must not exceed:
Height: 55 cm (21.6 inches)
Length: 40 cm (15.7 inches)
Width: 20 cm (7.8 inches)
Exceptions:
Passengers who booked tickets before May 4, 2024, can carry:
8 kg in Economy Class
10 kg in Premium Economy Class
12 kg in Business or First Class
Rapid Growth in Air Travel
